Re: Change DVDROM Cables

OK. Identify your PC with a model name and model number (p/n)

Re: Change DVDROM Cables

The drive will have jumpers that enable you to select Master/Slave/Cable Select.  Also, if the drive is the only device on the cable and it's at the end of the cable, then it should automatically be set to Master.

What is the reason you're wanting to change the settings?  Most likely, it's already the master.

Re: Change DVDROM Cables

Here is a link to a pdf document from Western Digital with illustrations and explanations. The explanation is pretty generic.

Most HDD/CD/DVD drives will have a diagram on the top of the drive which shows jumper locaions for desired slave/master/single drive settings.

So... the bottom line is that the simplest thing for you to do is remove the DVD drive and look for a sticker with illustrations. The type of ribbon connectorthat will be used is dependent on the drive's capabilities and the motherboard's IDE interface properties. Motherboards are not created equally.

It makes it a bit difficult for us when somenone does not wish to provide information about their pc.
