3Tb WD Green Hard Drive seen as 746Gb

I just bought a magnificent 3T WD Green HD, but it is seen as 746G

I tried to update my BIOS but haven't found any BIOS update for my motherboard. (I searched HP.com )

I'm quite stuck after some hours of research.

Here are some informations :

I run Windows 7 home premium (64) SP1

on a HP / Compaq CQ5231FR (model : VS318AA-ABF )

hence with a Pegatron Narra6 6.01 motherboard with a AMI BIOS 5.14 (11/04/09)

I want to use this Hard drive as a secondary drive (one partition, data only, no system)

Well... Is there any solution ?

Re: 3Tb WD Green Hard Drive seen as 746Gb

Hi,

Please read the following article:

   http://blogs.technet.com/b/askcore/archive/2010/02/18/understanding-the-2-tb-limit-in-windows-storag...

and hope the following statements help:

For a system to be able to address the maximum capacity of a device that has a storage capacity of more than 2 TB, the following prerequisites apply:

  • The disk must be initialized by using GPT.
  • The Windows version must be one of the following (32-bit or 64-bit, unless otherwise noted, but including all SKU editions):
    • Windows Server 2008 R2 (only 64 bit version available)
    • Windows Server 2008
    • Windows 7
    • Windows Vista

You have to format the HDD first (using an external enclusure for example).

    Regards.
