5100 series Desktop does not give F8 Safe Mode Option

I was wondering if a setting can be enable to disallow the F8. Windows has not booted  at this point, I think we're pretty much running in BIOS. I was t-shooting a friend's PC (a system restore to a prior restore point solved the issue), and at cold boot if I pressed F8 I would get to a stalled black screen indicting I could press F1 to boot, but there was no way to get a safe mode boot. Thoughts?

I was able to put the PC into safe mode by logging in normally, then through msconfig setting a safe mode boot, but the F8 should usually be the trick at a full boot. Hmmmmmm.

Hi,

If you are running Windows 8 then that is the way it is. F8 for Safe mode no longer works.

Hi,

Please post the HP product number for your PC.

How to Find the HP Model Number and the HP Product Number or let HP automatically find your PC model number and HP network attached printers.

I'll get that the next time I'm over at my friend's house where the computer resides....
