6150t supporting bigger graphics cards?

[ Edited ]

Hey all,

I was about to purchase a 6150t desktop computer but noticed after looking at the motherboard diagrams that there is not much room between the RAM areas and the graphics card. I already have a gig card and wanted to throw that in, but am weary of there not being enough open space for the big <text deleted> card to fit!

Let me know if anyone has experience with this comps motherboard.

Thanks!
Jim

Re: 6150t supporting bigger graphics cards?

I think it should support most cards out there.

The best way to find to out is try actually give u a try and install that card you said you have.

Make sure to push down in the slot, screw it in place, connect the power cable to it (6pin most of the time,or 8 pin depends on card and what power supply you have) and once u boot it make sure it works, and go get the latest drivers from either nvidia.com or ati.com depends which video card you have.

Most video cards out there takke 8.5-11 inches in length. I believe it should fit. Try it.

Re: 6150t supporting bigger graphics cards?

Well thats the problem I guess. I haven't bought the 6150 yet for that particular reasoning. I don't think I'm nervous of the length of the card, as much as the width.. as it may not be able to be pushed in due to the ram tabs.. Hmm.. I may have to just buy the 6150 and cross my fingers.. and possible break the set of tabs that hold the RAM down on that one side.. if need be. :smileywink:

This is a cheap low-end HP.  Case ventilation will be a problem if you use a powerful GPU.  You're not going to be able to use a high-performane GPU due to the cramped internal layout.

Re: 6150t supporting bigger graphics cards?

The BEST and most ideal computer for upgrades is CUSTOM BUILT meaning stay away from HP.  I just priced a high end gaming rig from tigerdirect and it was $1400.00 and that would run a game like Battlefield Bad Company 2 @ 60fps if you go to a DX 11 video card likethe 5870 then it would be 100+fps but add about $200.00 to the cost.
