Add SATA On Presario SR1500NX

Hello,

Can I Add SATA On Compaq Presario SR1500NX Desktop PC?

The Presario SR1500NX has standard IDE hard drives.  Is there such a think as a SATA PCI expansion card that will allow the addition of a SATA drive as a 2nd backup drive?

Thank you from New Orleans.

No need in that. Your motherboard has 2 sata connectors. Bottom Right hand of the board in this photo.

Re: Add SATA On Presario SR1500NX

Thank you Dr as this is my 1st experience with SATA so I had no idea.  Well I will buy a cheap one on eBay and test it.

Re: Add SATA On Presario SR1500NX

What does one do if the SATA connectors don't appear to work?  I have a 1300NX, but it appears to be the same mobo as above.

I just tried to install WD Caviar Black, and the machine wont' even recognize that the drive is even attached...not in device manager or disk management.

I've seen a few comments about changing the BIOS for the SATA, but that's not an available option for my BIOS.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Rik

Re: Add SATA On Presario SR1500NX

The BIOS SATA was not available on mine.  But I upgraded the BIOS and now it has SATA support.

You may want to update the BIOS, MB drivers, Chipset drivers, etc.

Re: Add SATA On Presario SR1500NX

According to the HP help site, I'm already at the latest version (3.15).  Unless there's another from Asus that I should use?

[ Edited ]

Never use any bios update unless it is from HP. Any attempt to use one from another site can and will leave your compter useless. There has to be a setting or needed driver. Try updating the chipset as you mentioned.

Also look at the photo under ADVANCED SETTINGS in bios setup. Look for the PATA/SATA portions and set them like you see in the photo.

Re: Add SATA On Presario

Thanks dmhoo29.

My advanced setup screen does not have that option..that is, there is no line item for onboard PATA/SATA.  I wil try the VIA downloads later today.
