Hi,

Download Imgburn and use it to determine the cabapilities of the HP BH38L optical drive.

Review this post and this post.  HP firmware is posted here for the BH38L and also here.

Updating the firmware may be moot if the drive doesn't have Lightscribe capabilities.

Re: BH38L not recognize as Lightscribe drive

Hello Cheebc,

Can you please let me know that is your computer model?

Do this to check your current Firmware revision, before trying to update yours:

1 Click on "Start," then type "device" (without quotes) in the "Search" text field in Windows 7. Click on "Device Manager."

2 Double-click the "DVD/CD-ROM drives" category to expand it.

3.Click on the "Details" tab.

4. Click on "Device Instance Path" in the "Property" drop-down list.

5. Note the firmware number listed to the right. Write it down if you wish to look for an updated firmware version.

Thanks,
Regards
