Hi,

Just picked up one of these for my wife and it has BIOS 5.38, I dowloaded v5.49 sp43096.exe and executed the installer, the installer came back with an error message that my computer does not meet the minimum requirement, I double-checked the MB and it is M2N68--LA, any idea?
Quite frankly, if you consider how minuscule the enhancements offered by the BIOS update are, to accept the risk involved in flashing the BIOS seems hardly worth the effort.
Murphy's law applies here.
If it ain't broke don't fix it because if you do it will surely break.

Hi,
OK.
Post the Operating system version, model name and product number of your HP product here in your thread. For newer laptops and PCs..... in Windows just hold the CTRL+ ALT+S keys.
download the installer using a different browser. Try Firefox or Google chrome. You are correct in thinking the installer could be corrupt.

Hi,
Never mind it is not really an option. Just note the name of the file.

Hi,
How about downloading it from another PC. I have a query for you as what you are describing as a error message during the attempted BIOS flash is not usual at all. I would almost tend to believe that you are suing the wrong BIOS file. That can be lethal to a motherboard.
If you hold CTRL+ALT+S down in Windows, can you post the information that comes up on your monitor?

erico

I thought it may be that a wrong BIOS was posted to the support page but there is no way I could confirm that. The support staff via online chat wouldn't even search HP's helpdesk db to see if there has been any problem with this softpaq, he simply told me to send the unit to the factory, rather helpful don't you think?
Here's the info, same as what I posted above from BELARC
Model #: CQ5110F
Product #: NP185AA-ABA
Serial #: 4CExxxxxxx
Software Build #: 93NAv3PrA1
Service ID #: 100-5xx
PCBRAND: Presario
Thanks for the help. BTW, I did d/l the file from different PC's.

Hi,
Take a look above at the information you posted from Belarc. It is hardly the same HP specific data provided by your own PC invoked by a simple keystroke combination. You could have actually saved some time by actually providing that info as requested.
The factory will probably just pop in another BIOS chip, rigorously test it and send it back to you. Another option might have been to discern the model number and manufacturer of the DVD burner and update the firmware.

erico
