BIOS update fails

Hi. I have a Pavilion with a A8M2N-LA motherboard:

 http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c00797521&lang=en&cc=us&taskI...

I'm trying to flash this bios using the 5.07 update found at:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=pv-54579-1&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&...

I am logged on as admin and I am running a 32 bit version of Vista but I still receive this error:

---------------------------
Windows Based BIOS Update
---------------------------
Your system does not meet the minimum requirements for this update.

Update has been cancelled. (9996)

I'm not sure how I should proceed in order to complete the bios flash. Anyone that has experienced this before?

Re: BIOS update fails

In checking the info from the page you included:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c00797521&lang=en&cc=us&taskId=101&prodSeriesId=3220014&prodTypeId=12454

The BIOS for your machine is this one:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=pv-56162-1&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=3311651&os=228&lang=en

Give that a try.

Re: BIOS update fails

Thanks, but the requirements on that update seems to indicate that it is only supported when running XP. My system came loaded with XP but its been upgraded to Vista, hence my earlier reference to the 5.07 version. Also, checking the current version lists the BIOS as 5.04.

And the most important part - I'm really after the AMD builtin virtualization support in the 5.07 firmware upgrade and the 3.10 version only seems to update the builtin video.

I must admit that it is confusing with two different bios versions (3.x and 5.x) that is supposedly compatible with the same MB but contains totally different updates and is dependent on your OS version...

Again, thank you very much for taking the time to respond!

Re: BIOS update fails

Yes, if your BIOS is version 5.04, then one would think that the 5.07 version would be the correct update.  I have read that 5.07 was indeed for Vista and not XP, also.

If your computer is still running OK after the failed BIOS update, you could try it again but I have looked around and it seems that you are not alone.  I saw several posts in other forums stating the exact same as you when trying that update.  You could always give tech support a direct query on this problem to see what they say.

Re: BIOS update fails

Thanks again.

Seems as if your searching skills are better than mine :smileytongue:. I tried to find any more info about this issue but failed to find any matches.

I'll see if I can figure out how to direct a question directly to the techsupport.

Perhaps they can shed some light on why this is failing.

Cheers,

Re: BIOS update fails

I just got the answer from HP. Even though the update is listed as an update for my type of MB its still not valid since it isnt actually listed when searching for updates based on the computers modelnumber.

So in short, one cannot expect the modelnumber of the motherboard alone to be sufficient when it comes to finding updates. You must rely on the listed updates on the computer specific webpage, in my case this one:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=2093&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=3311651

So no native AMD virutalization support for me :smileysad:

Hope this helps someone in the future.

Re: BIOS update fails

HP uses several versions of the a8m2n-la motherboard under different names NodusM, NodusM3, NAOS, etc. My Pavilion M7580N uses the NodusM GL8E version of the board with the 3.10 bios. I would be interested to hear from anyone who has successfully upgraded this MB to the 5.07 bios.

Re: BIOS update fails

Can I just extract the files in Windows 7 and get the same result? I need to update to 5.07 as well. I have a NODUSM3 motherboard.
