The Safely Remove Hardware Function indicates Windows will give the OK to Remove the back-up Drive (from the front-panel bay) when processed. The Generic Volume J: line Disappears but no Windows OK pop-up ever occurs. If I wait 15 seconds and Remove the drive, what's the worst that can happen? Thanks!

Thanks to you both.
I do hear a "Boing" sound at Removal.
Turns out the "Policy" for the BkUp Disk Drive was Quick Removal. Have been so busy finishing my paper on what happened a trillionth of a second Before the Big Bang that I wasn't even aware of the Policy Choices.
Is cache Writing for Windows important enough to change this & Require the Safe Remove function? Many Thanks again!

Write caching is a bit faster but since data is held in memory, you have to wait for all the data to be written out to the drive before unpluggin it. You have choices to make.

Thanks, Dave. I'll watch the delay time with Optimize for Performance checked and decide. I have a UPS so power interrupts are not an issue - as I've read they could be.

Well, the Safely Remove steps don't behave any differently when the Optimize for Performance is checked.
The J: Drive Line just disappears Vs. seeing some delay & then an OK to Remove pop-up.
(Surely you don't have to Re-boot for the Policy Change to take effect?
Not a big deal but any other Help thoughts are appreciated.
