Bad memory damage vid card

I have a used d530 cmt, p4 3ghz, 1 gb ram. I installed a pc2700u 512mb memory mod, windows started up normally at first, I guess it is called the splash screen, but when the screen with the user accounts came on, the screen was all fuzzy and the color changed. No red shows just blue and green. I uninstalled the memory mod, but the prob still exists. Did I damage the internal vid card or the monitor? Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Re: Bad memory damage vid card

Hi:

Unless you had some kind of static discharge or you physically damaged the GPU chip when you installed the memory, it is either coincidental that the video chip went out or perhaps something happened to the driver.

Try reinstalling the graphics driver.

This is the most current version from Intel if you have XP on your d530.

Re: Bad memory damage vid card

Hi:

I put a nVidia GeForce 6200 128 MB card in one of mine, and also a Radeon 9600 128 MB card in another one I had.

They have to be AGP video cards.

You probably could go to 256 MB memory for those cards.

You should be able to find used but tested and working ones on eBay.
