Black Screen

When I turn the power on, I have a black screen and beeps of 2 long with a pause, 2 long with a pause, etc, etc.  I was having problems a week ago with Windows shutting down the compute and it doing the repair sequence.  Today I was following advice of another forum on updating the bios from HP site and in the middle of the update a blue screen popped up and told me that fatal error had occurred and before I could read the rest of the screen, it went black.  I also had done a system diagnostic and it showed memory failure and a code called "Biome-1".  That's when I was advised to update the bios.  I have no idea other than change the ram sticks according to what I have googled.  Any info would so greatly be appreciated.  My computer is an HP Pavilion a6400f.  I have had a lot of problems since buying it in May 2008.  HP never could solve the problems before.

Re: Black Screen

Heres some information if  you have a Seagate:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01676224&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=368...

Try Scanning your Hard Drive.

BIOS Beep Codes:

After Replacing the Memory, reset your BIOS Settings and reinstall the update for your BIOS.

Re: Black Screen

Two good replies.  But, still no work.  The beeps are memory parity error.  Went through all troubleshooting procedures and still have beeps. Not sure what to do with memory parity error.  Maybe pull hard disk and retrieve what I can and trash computer.  Still have black screen when computer is powered up along with beeps.

Re: Black Screen

Hello rnp, You might try downloading, and running Memtest, that can be found Here and see if Memtest can detect any faulty memory modules. You may need to burn Memtest to a CD and boot to this CD in order to run Memtest.

Hello mp, Can you not use the computer you are using to post here?

Re: Black Screen

Hello rnp, You might try removing all the memory modules, and then reinstall one memory module in the memory slot next to the processor, and then try to boot the system. If the system still does not boot, remove the first module and insert another module, until you have either gotten the system to boot or tried all the memory modules in the first slot.

Just something else to try.
