Blanking plate over on-board DVI port on HPE595 UK

[ Edited ]

Hi,

I bought the above machine about a year ago now, and currently use a three monitor set up with both the graphics card and on board graphics working together. Presently, I have a monitor plugged into the HDMI slot and, just now, a blanking plate with 'DO NOT REMOVE' on it and special five-pronged screws over what is very obviously a DVI port caught my eye.

I've checked on the motherboard spec and, yep, the port is there! I'm wondering if there is any official reason that blanking plate would be there i.e. overload of PSU? Otherwise, that's coming off! I want four monitors! :smileyhappy:

Thanks in advance

P.S. In advance, I'm aware that removing it will probably void my warranty. As this machine is coming to the end of its warranty period, I'm not too fussed about that. I just don't want to blow the motherboard up by accident!

The mystery port!

Re: Blanking plate over on-board DVI port on HPE595 UK

Hi,

Simple reason: when having a dedicated video card, the system disables the onboard video card. The cover simply means: do not use this, it is not going to work because many people were trying to use it and then posted question why it did not work.

Hope this makes sense.

I enabled the on board graphics in the BIOS and use them together without any issues (under Windows, at least).

If that's what it is, I'll have to get that plate off. Four monitors are just too tempting!

Thanks for the swift reply!
