CD ROM issue

On an older XP machine, my CD ROM is not recognized in the BIOS and I suspect a register issue.  Does anyone out there have the correct nomenclature for the register entries for a CD ROM for an XP machine?  TIA

It always helps to give details.

1) What HP model #, and OS Service Pack? You already said XP.

2) Is this the original CD drive, or a replacement?
