Re: CPU Upgrade for a HP Pavilion Media Center m8400f Desktop

AMD Phenom Quad 995 @2.6 Ghz

Phenom II will most likely not operate as it is not in the supported CPU list as has been reported by other forum member as not working even though an HP Rep told the member that it should.

Re: CPU Upgrade for a HP Pavilion Media Center m8400f Desktop

I got the AMD 9950 125w, since the old processor a AMD 9500 is a 95w which has a 300w Power Supply.

Should I upgraded the Power Supply as well?  And to what maybe a 500W?

Thanks,

Not unless you upgrade the video card to one that requires more power from your PSU.

So... your system is good to go. :smileyhappy:

[ Edited ]

I just talked to HP Tech Support and they tell me that the processor may work and it may not work?

What do you think?  I know that I am going from a 95w processor to a 125w Processor.

The question is will the MCP61PM-HM (Nettle3) handle the 125W Processor?

What do you think?

according to the information at this link to your motherboard at the HP website it should work. It is an AM2+ CPU just as the supported processor list states. It will draw more power under load than a 95W CPU but I don't delieve that will be a show stopper. What the HP rep is referring to is that the 9950 is a new CPU and may not be in the coding of the BIOS programming.

You can still hold them accountable, after all you are not deviating from their published motherboard specifications.

I will update this later as I find out more information.

Re: CPU Upgrade for a HP Pavilion Media Center m8400f Desktop

The AMD 9950 (125w) will not work in a HP Pavilion Media Center m8400f Desktop!!  Even after a bios update.

The only upgrades to the AMD 9500 X4 (95w) is a AMD 9550 X4 (95w), AMD 9650 X4 (95w), or a AMD 9750 X4 (95w),

I advise everyone to not purchase another HP computer system that you may want to upgrade.  I just took two HP Computers,

a HP Pavilion a6113w Desktop, and a HP Pavilion Media Center m8400f Desktop to the city dump and took out the trash.

I went to the local computer store and hand picked all the parts that will go into the new systems.  There all upgradeable computers

with 550w power supplies, and the new AMDPhenom II X4 940 Black EditionQuad Core Orocessors.

I will never buy another HP product as long as I live and I will be advising others to do the same!

Thanks for all your assistance!

F**K HP!

Outsource this you HP!

Re: CPU Upgrade for a HP Pavilion Media Center m8400f Desktop

Amen brother, I fully agree with you!

I wish that both HP and the big box retail store where I got my TLB infected AMD9500 - m8400f would have been honest and upfront about this issue and actually care enough to replace the CPU!

Now I learn that i cannot upgrade to the new Phenom II's !!!!  Never again will I purchase an HP product!!!

Re: CPU Upgrade for a HP Pavilion Media Center m8400f Desktop

Sorry to bump this post but I'm looking for some clarification. I recently upgrade to Windows 7 Professional (64x) along with some new RAM (currently up to 8GB) and a new video card (a NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS) in my HP m8400f but I’m still looking for some more power. I have yet to upgrade my power supply from the one that came with HP and my next step would be the CPU and if need be the power supply. there’s been some discussion within this post as to whether or not the AMD 9950 x4 (125w), AMD 9550 X4 (95w), AMD 9650 X4 (95w), and the AMD 9750 X4 (95w) would work and it sounds to me like a mix vote, has any new or relevant information come to light? I’d rather be on the safe side before risking frying my computer.

Cheers.
