I have a HP Pavilion Elite e9120y Desktop w/ M2N78-LA (Violet3) motherboard and I recently updated my bios to v5.08 (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloa
Now my CPU fan constantly pulsates (varies in speed up and down) every few seconds regardless of what I'm running on the computer. And I can't find the previous BIOS version any where.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks but my PC is no longer under warranty since it was refurbished and had a 90-day peroid only.

Since HP does not have the old bios version posted, there is not much you can do, you might consider a reflash of v5.08, but it has its risks.
Other than that you might try Loading Defaults in the bios, save changes on exit.

Yes I've tried reflashing w/ v5.08 again and tried resetting the BIOS to default settings but no change.

Am I correct that it's an Asus board? Call them, they can offer some advice.
To say THANK YOU, press the white star on the left, to render a KUDO.

You can try, but I doubt Asus will give support for an OEM board.

You might try reading the thread "p6727c Fan Speed High" - I know it isn't the same model of computer or motherboard, but it might give you a few ideas. The Violet mbs are mentioned, and so is resetting the bios.

Hi,
Try blowing out the dust from the CPU heat sink using a can of compressed air. Lastly, pull of the CPU heat sink and clean the top of the CPU and the bottom of the heat sink with some isopropyl alcohol and then apply a pea size amount of Artic Silver 5 thermal paste. Then secure the heat sink.
