CPU upgrade question - AMD Phenom II X6 1100T

Hi:

I have an HP Pavilion p6710f system.  I purchased an AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition processor.  The computer spec sheet indicates that you are capable of upgrading to an Phenom II X6 10xxT Six-Core processor so I simply assumed that the 1100T would work as well.  Well I assumed wrong as I am getting the “unsupported CPU detected” error message when I boot.

Is there a BIOS update that I can perform that will make this processor work in my system?  I have Ami BIOS version 6.04.

BTW I upgraded the power supply to a Thermaltake TR2 500 watt unit.

Thanks,

Warren

The AMD Phenom II X6 1100T is indeed not a compatible processor.

Unfortunately, you misread the specification.

AMD Phenom II X6 10xxT Six-Core (Thuban core) means that a X6 1055T or 1090T  or a 1075T will work.

An 1100T processor ( I made the digit red so you can see it does not have the XX (means don't care in electronics jargon) that maatches the published specification.

Best regards,
erico

Re: CPU upgrade question - AMD Phenom II X6 1100T

Thanks Erico I was afraid of that.

I figured I would take a chance as the spec sheets aren't always 100% correct.  For example the documentation states that I can only have a max of 8 GB of DDR3 ram but I have 12 GB installed with no problems.

Oh well u live and learn.

Any chance the BIOS will be updated anytime soon???

Thanks,

Warren

Re: CPU upgrade question - AMD Phenom II X6 1100T

Well I exchanged the CPU for the AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Black edition and i'm guessing that won't work either as I'm getting the same message.  I'm guessing this is because of the wattage being 125 watts on the CPU.  I have a 500 watt power supply so I don't know why they put this restriction on the motherboard.   I am very unhappy with these restrictions.

Hi,

The socket is rated for 95 watts TDP.  This is a list of the AMD AM3 95 watt processors.
