Can I improve my Windows 7 experience rating?

I am running windows 7 ultimate, 64 bit.  My desktop is a Pavilion h8-1090t, with an Intel core i7 CPU x 980 @ 3.33GHz . I have 24GB RAM and a hard drive with 550 GB of free space.

My windows experience rating is a 5.9 as a result of the subscore rating on the "primary hard disk - 'data transfer rate.' "   All the other subscores are either 7.7 or 7.8.

I this rating something that can be improved, or am I crazy to wonder about it?

Thanks!

Hi,

Yes, buy new hardware will do the trick. In this case, replace current HDD with a SSD or Hybrid HDD will give you higher score.

Hi,

A good SSD should get the Primary Hard Drive rating up to 7.6.

Re: Can I improve my Windows 7 experience rating?

Hello CharlesWK, I have a Samsung 830 Series SSD and my Windows Index for the hard drive is 7.9

The overall index is less, due to a lower performing video card.

Hi,

You will not reach 7.9 on a SATA II port.

Re: Can I improve my Windows 7 experience rating?

Hi all,

After SSD upgrade, you still may not be able to get 7.6 or 7.9 because another component may have lower score. The index shows the lowest score from the bunch.

Regards.

I'm connected to a Sata II port, and my Windows Experience shows a 7.9 for the Samsung 830 Series SSD.

If you advise I cannot show the 7.9, then Windows is reporting a wrong Windows Experience.

@HANS,

You can't get 7.9 from a SATA II port on the Truckee motherboard.  I know as I have the same mobo as the OP.

The Samsung is not the fast.  Review the MAXIMUM PC Magazine benchmark.

Big_Dave, You should know what you are talking about before you spout off about things you do not have a clue about.

No one ever said I was using a Truckee Motherboard. I didn't mention a thing about the motherboard I was using.

I gave up on the Truckee motherboard a couple years ago. Ask a question or two before you conclude you have all the information you need to start making assumptions about what you do not know.

You can put the Samsung SSD down all you care to. I have one and I know what the benchmark speeds are on this SSD.
