Hi all,
I'm running Windows 7 Professional and when trying to update the bios (I'm on 5.18) using this link:
it won't work because it was made to be run on Vista. Is there any way I can do it?

Hi,
I don't see a bios update posted for your PC. Bios updates do have model and build dependent information so using another bios from a differnet model and build is not recommended.

The update is for that particular motherboard and if you go here:
you can see that the SR5350F uses that same motherboard.
Doesn't matter which particular model I use. This bios update applies to all the HPs/Compaqs with that motherboard.

The rev. 5.19 BIOS you wish to install on your computer is for the IPILP-LC (Lancaster) motherboard, while your sr5350f uses the IPILP-LC (Lancaster8) motherboard. These are similar motherboards but definately not the same motherboard. HP has the nasty habit of using a very poor naming convention for their motherboards and their BIOS update pages. The M2N78-LA motherboard series is another example of this. The M2N78-LA comes in at least 4 different versions, the Viola, the Violet, the Violet3, and the Violet6. Again similar but not the same.
I suggest that you DO NOT try to update your BIOS, as it may brick your computer.

@Frank,
That bios update is for a differnet model and build. NOT RECOMMENDED! I agree with what you said.

Here are the two boards in question. Seem identical except that there are only 2 USB ports in the back on the Lancaster while Lancaster8 has 4.
Anyway, thanks for the catch though. Had no idea there were two kinds with the same model identifier.
But considering this minor difference, you guys think it's still not ok to update?
And one more question. On the bios update page, where does it say it's for Lancaster and not Lancaster8? Not trying to be argumentative but curious.

DON'T do it. It is not worth bricking the motherboard. The cost to replace the motherboard and/or OS can run several hundred dollars.

Ok, no worries. I can't do it anyway because the update software doesn't run on Windows 7 which was the point of the original post.
Thanks for your help.
