Changed processor, 1801 - Microcode Patch Error.

Hi everyone,

I have changed the processor on my HP SFF 4000 (downgrading the core 2 duo E7500 to a core 2 duo E6300, as i need the E7500 in another computer) and i am getting this nasty 1801 - Microcode Patch Error.

I can't enter the bios nor do anything.

I can press F1 to skip, so the computers goes to windows but switches off in emergency a minute later.

I guess I may have to flash my bios, but if anyone can lead me to detailed instruction, and to a download link to a bios that supports the E6300 for my SFF 4000, I would really appreciate!

Thanks In advance!

Hi:

You will have to live with the press F1 to continue or install a supported processor.

There are no BIOS updates or microcode updates that will add support for the E6300 processor in your PC.

Below is the list of supported processors you can choose from.

HP Compaq 4000 Pro Series

Standard Features and Configurable Components (availability may vary by country)

Intel Celeron Processors

Intel Celeron E3300 Processor

2.50 GHz, 1M L2 cache, 800 MHz FSB

Intel Celeron E3500 Processor

2.70 GHz, 1M L2 cache, 800 MHz FSB

Intel Pentium Processors:

Intel Pentium E5700 Processor

3.0 GHz, 2M L2 cache, 800 MHz FSB

Intel Pentium E5800 Processor

3.20 GHz, 2M L2 cache, 800 MHz FSB

Intel Pentium E6700 Processor

3.20 GHz, 2M L2 cache, 1066 MHz FSB

Intel Pentium E6800 Processor

3.33 GHz, 2M L2 cache, 1066 MHz FSB

Intel Core 2 Duo Processors

Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 Processor

2.93 GHz, 3M L2 cache, 1066 MHz FSB

Intel Core 2 Duo E7600 Processor

3.06 GHz, 3M L2 cache, 1066 MHz FSB

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Processor

3.0 GHz, 6M L2 cache, 1333 MHz FSB

Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 Processor

3.16 GHz, 6M L2 cache, 1333 MHz FSB

Intel Core 2 Duo E8600 Processor

3.33 GHz, 6M L2 cache, 1333 MHz FSB

Intel Core 2 Quad Processors

Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 Processor

2.66 GHz, 4M L2 cache, 1333 MHz FSB

Intel Core 2 Quad Processors

Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400s Processor

2.66 GHz, 4M L2 cache, 1333 MHz FSB, 95W TDP

I reviewed the BIOS release notes, and only one adds support for the Q8400s processor.  No other processor support has been added.

Re: Changed processor, 1801 - Microcode Patch Error.

Thanks a lot for your quick reply Paul.
However, do you know how can I fix the "overheating"(I think it's that) issue? The fan just get to max speed very soon after boot. And I can't access bios settings.
If there is nothing to do, well, I will leave it with default processor I guess!

Thanks again,

Vincent

Hi, Vincent:

I think the unsupported processor is causing all of your woes.

Why not get a used but tested and working E6700 on eBay for your 4000?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-Pentium-E6700-3-2-GHz-Dual-Core-BX80571E6700-Processor-/150764919142?p...

This was the cheapest one I could find.

Re: Changed processor, 1801 - Microcode Patch Error.

i had the opportunity to get a E8400 processor, I tested it, and it seems to work fine Idle, however, the fan doesn't start to run when the processor is under heavy load, and it's heating quite much.

It's weird, as it's in the list of  supported processor.

I will try to setup speedfan and see if I can make it work.

Re: Changed processor, 1801 - Microcode Patch Error.

Hi, Vincent:

Yes, that is very odd, since the E8400 is supported.

Do you have the latest BIOS installed?

Re: Changed processor, 1801 - Microcode Patch Error.

I have tried to check, but I can't see the version number in "about". it's from 2011 however.

I will grab the latest one on Hp website, and see if it changes something too!

Thanks,

Vincent

Re: Changed processor, 1801 - Microcode Patch Error.

The BIOS version should show on the system information screen when you enter the BIOS menu.
