Hi!
I got HP Pavilion Elite m9280.uk-a Desktop PC, I made an upgrade to PSU (Coolermaster Real Power M 700W Modular PSU 700 Watt SLi) and GPU (EVGA NVIDIA GTX 280 SSC) and I would like to change CPU as well (I got at the moment: QuadCore AMD Phenom 9600). The motherboard specifications on HP website shows:
"Supports the following processors:
- Phenom with Quad Core technology (AM2+) up to 9600 (up to 95 watt)
- Athlon 64 X2 with Dual Core technology X2 up to 5600+ (up to 89 watt)
- Athlon 64 less than 4000+
- Sempron less than 3800+"
But some of PHENOM II are up to 95W and they are compatible with AM2+ socket. I don't see any BIOS update for new CPU, so my question is, can I install new CPU on this motherboard like AMD Phenom II X4 945 QUAD CORE Socket-AM3/AM2+; HDX945WFGIBOX; 3000 Mhz, FSB 2000MHz, cache L3 6MB, 45nm, 95W?!

The big question is what will your bios support? Stay within what information you found for processor support and you should be good. However, if you are a risk taker then try what you want. Just be sure that you fully understand the return policy for the processor that you are buying.
You might want to consider buying a new mobo that is compatible with your HP that supports your processor choice. Review your dimm specs and what is compatible with the new mobo!

I contact HP, and that what they answer to me:
"Further, as we have not tested any processor other than mentioned above, so we cannot comment on the compatibility and functionality of the other processors. However, you may try installing the processor. I suggest you to contact any computer store or HP authorized service provider and check if AMD Phenom II X4 945 QUAD CORE processor will work fine with your computer. They will be in better position to help you in this regard.
I apologize as I am unable to help you completely."
So...Anybody can help with it?!

I would say that it should work, but yes there is a possibilty it might not work. As long as it has the same socket I would think it will work, but I would hate to buy the CPU and have it not work. I will look for some answers.

Please don't go by what ASUS says will work in the motherboard. HP buys the motherboards and makes changes to meet their needs. They will not support any CPU that is not listed in the 'Motherboard Specifications'. This does not mean that a different CPU won't work, it just means, as you said, you play Russian roulette.
