I wanted to point this out. It seems to me it is a bios issue and needs updating. I replaced the cpu with a AMD Phenom II X4 925 95w cpu. My core voltage reads 1.664 V. I am attaching a picture for you can see. This should be corrected. It is my thinking it is not actually running at that voltage. If it is. I am in trouble. But once again. I do not think it is. Or I imagine. I would be having over heating issues and the pc would be shutting down. I done this cpu upgrade in December 2010.

That voltage is incredibly high, but the temps are fine. I doubt the voltage is that high with temperatures so low.
TCase is far lower than the max of @70C. I suggest you try checking the voltage with HWMonitor. If you want to understand more about the voltage regulation circuits on your motherboard take a read of this article. You can actually check the CPU voltage with a multimeter.

I attached a picture using HWMonitor and CPU-Z in my first post. Both showing the high voltage.

I will ask about this and get back to you.
If you put the original cpu in place of the upgrade is the voltage still that high? It is cheaper on your wallet to smoke the original processor instead of the new one.

Not sure about the other one. I even cleared cmos when upgrading. I don't really want to swap back to the older one just to check that. I am pretty confident in saying if the voltage was this high. My cpu would be dead by now. Temps. would be extremely high and pc would be shutting down. I wonder what the voltage says for other HP users that have a AMD Phenom II X4 925 processor in their desktops. Hmmm.... I also came across someone else complaining about the same thing with their Compaq.

HI,
It could very well be a BIOS ROM issue that has never been addressed by the desktop support group. Apparently no one has said anything about it or noticed it before the two of you did.
If it hasn't smoke checked by now it probably won't happen. You can measure the voltage at the chokes if you fell confident enough to do it. If you feel confident about it I can ask where the measurement points should be.

I am not confident in doing that. If HP could update the bios to fix this bug and add better support for a quad core cpu when upgrading. That would be fantastic. Can you pass this on to the right people and get back with any information?

The vcore voltages displayed in CPUID and HWMonitor show 2.14 volts for my AMD Phenom II x6 1090t. AMD Overdrive shows my CPU voltage to be 1.32. amd overdrive. PC Wizard 2010 shows the voltage ID for the CPU varying between 1.325 and 1.475 volts. PC Wizard Try either or both of the utilities in the links and see if you get a different voltage figure for your CPU than you got with HWMonitor or CPUID.
