Compaq sr5223wm upgrade help..

[ Edited ]

The computer still has all it's original parts with windows vista basic. Just trying to give it some life. I do retain some knowledge about computers so please feel free to be technical.

I currently have a new CPU which is a AMD Athlon 64x2 Model#:AD04800IAA5D0 Socket AM2

2x2 GB RAM DDR2 240PIN (The current OS will only be able to use 3GB-3.5GB of the ram? So i will probably have to upgrade the OS for the full use

I want to upgrade the Graphics card as well i don't care as long as it's an upgrade and it's compatible (Sounds a bit ignorant but this computer is moderatly old and i would like to restore it to a media computer for a family member of mine)

Problem: I need a new cpu fan I'm not sure what fan i should buy i believe that it is a 3-Pin power connecter but again i need some confirmation on that. I don't mind the price but it has to be reasonable and it must be able to maintain the heat of the CPU. I know that you can buy an adapter(one dollar) for a 4 connector and turn it into 3 but yeah no thanks unless there is a valid reason why i should. Please provide some links either on eBay/Amazon/Or a trusted site that you use. What I'm mainly looking for is a good CPU Fan/Heatsink.

Acediesal,

I looked up your model #, http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01174518&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&cc=us&dlc=en...

Then I did a HP PartsSurfer: http://partsurfer.hp.com/Search.aspx?SearchText=GN573AA

The stock heatsink 5187-5704 is supposed to be this: http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=5187-5704

Verified here: http://www.amazon.com/HP-5187-5704-Socket-Aluminum-Heat/sim/B001UUOBJK/2

It is rated to 5600+ processors. Your new CPU is a Athlon 64 X2 with Dual Core technology up to 4800+ (up to 65 watt TDP).

The selection of any graphics card, IMHO, starts with the intended use. Every "game" has recommendations for the minimum computer specs, and then their recommended specs.

Example Diablo 3: http://us.battle.net/support/en/article/diablo-iii-system-requirements

An excellent site to compare different cards:http://www.hwcompare.com/9745/geforce-gtx-260-vs-geforce-gtx-550-ti/

Now the problem. In the above example just for Diablo 3, the GTX 260 card has been discontinued. But the GTX550Ti comes close in specs. It all boils down to the level of play per game. Different games will have different recommendations. Your 4400+ processor just barely meets the minimum for Diablo 3. That is just an example. Remember, each game, different specs.

My new machine has an Intel E8400 dual core 3Ghz processor so I added an EVGA GTX550Ti and a Rosewill 630W PSU.  The PSU has more wattage (W) than needed for the GTX550Ti, but I could safely run a GTX570 with that supply.
