Computer will not boot past Compaq logo startup screen, Compaq SR1726NX

Hello, I've being doing extensive research on people with this problem where the computer would hang at the Compaq Logo startup screen and wouldn't allow you to access the BIOS. I've eliminated all options I could think of. Tried different compatible RAM modules which are PC3200 DDR400. I've tried replacing the CMOS battery with a new CR2032 battery. Tried resetting the CMOS by moving the jumpers to 2 and 3 then returend to 1 and 2 settings. I have tried loading up a different hard drive with Windows XP Pro on it with no difference in results. All the fans work as well as the fan from the PSU. So it's not a power issue. No other devices are connected to it besides the monitor and a PS\2 keyboard.

 

I've seen a familiar post with this issue with a different computer and it was fixed by removing the CMOS battery and holding the power button for a few seconds. Then proceded with replacing the battery and booted up the computer again, which in the end solved the other person's issue. It did nothing for me.

 

Any help would be appreciated. I am at lost at what to do next besides replacing the motherboard. Any help would be great ASAP.

Hi.

Try the CMOS clearing again and this time hold the power button in longer (@15 seconds) and leave the CMOS clear jumper on for 30 minutes or more. Sometime it takes quite some time to clear CMOS and people have been know to leave the jumper on for 24 hours.

All is not lost as long as the CPU fan powers up and you can see something on your display.

 

Is the PSU( at the rear of your PC case) led solid green or is it flashing? This could be a power supply issue if it is flashing.

Two guesses:

 

Viruses (denial of service) do effect the BIOs or a faulty mother board.

Put the MB on a non-conductive surface.  Connect the mouse, keyboard, known good RAM, and PSU.  Can you access the BIOS?  May need to take out battery for 1/2 day.

 

Next step is to try another PSU.  Still no luck?  The MB is probably defective.

Thank you everyone for helping out. I have tried everything besides swapping the PSU. The PSU's green light is not flashing. I see everything powering up just fine with this PSU.

I will try again by taking out the CMOS for a full day.

I trust you meant to say the battery not the CMOS.

I have had success in actually removing the CMOS (with socketed types) with a removal tool. Upon replacing the CMOS chip I have had motherboards actually return to operating state. That does not happen all of the time. It is a last ditch effort.
