Configuration Error

I upgraded to a Gigabyte motherboard and Intel i5 processor on my HP Pavilion p6320f pc, (the old motherboard -Pegatron- went out) but I can't get my pc started and it keeps giving me "a configuration error has been detected" message. I've checked and re-checked the BIOS settings to no avail. Am I missing something? Please help.

Re: Configuration Error

Here are the specs for the HP Pavilion p6320f Desktop Computer. Since you replaced the motherboard with one that is different from the original, your operating system and HP Recovery Discs will no longer work.

Please descirbe your issue in better/more detail. Is this error in the BIOS??? Is it in Windows???

What operating system do you have on your hard drive?

Re: Configuration Error

Thanks. I was thinking that the win7 software in my old drive won't recognize the new motherboard/processor, but will loading it with a new win7 disk solve the configuration issue?

Re: Configuration Error

Frank,

Your again on the mark. Only the same motherboard works with the OEM licensed OS from HP.

Danjen,

It does not matter. A different board.

junMa973,

Using a WIN7 retail OS will work. You can then goto HP's website and download all the drivers. I would suggest you put them in a folder, and lauch each driver. When complete, copy the drivers to a CD, creating a Driver CD.

Re: Configuration Error

[ Edited ]

If you do a new install and don't care about you data and wipe all your old partitions, you should be successful installing windows 7 64 bit.  If you want your data, buy another drive and install windows 7 on it and then attach you old drive to it and you can move what you want to the new drive.  Software programs and keys for programs will have to be reinstalled.  You would have to have a new OEM windows 7 disk and key.

Re: Configuration Error

@wb2001.... Thanks :-)

@junMA973.... While the old HP Windows 7 install may not recognise the new hardware, that is just one hurdle. Assuming you got past that point, the OS would complain that it is no longer genuine. This is because the HP OS activation is tied to the factory motherboard. Also, the HP Recovery Discs check the motherboard/BIOS  and will not load unless it detects what it is looking for.

Loading Windows 7 from a new disc will solve your problem and should install without issue. As for the drivers needed once WIndows is installed, your system is now a kinda hybird.... part HP... part not HP. I would attempt to download the drivers directly from the various OEM suppliers and not HP. The OEMs will have driver that are more up-to-date.
