The PSU make a strange noise as if the fan is slowed down (like a brake on a car) when the PC is turned off. I have never heard this sound on a 8200 Elite with an i5 processor. The PC makes a very high pitched tone when it is running which is very annoying and gives me a headache. Onsite support have replaced the harddrive, systemboard and the PSU without any luck and now they want to replace the CPU. The Pc is brand new. Is there anybody out there with the same experience?

Please post rather than send me a Message. It's good for the community and I might not be able to get back quickly. - Thank you.

It's very hard to locate the noise source. It's like the noise is "around" the Pc.

I have replaced the case fan today without any luck. A high pitch noise is again in my ears. I have spent the day at work together with several HP Compaq 8200 Elite i5 Pc's without any anoying sounds at all. The DVD drive, the CPU and the RAM modules are not replaced yet.....

Thank you for your info. I think that I have tried everything and I have started the Pc without power to the drives but the noise in my head starts about 30 sec. after when the powerswitch has been activated. After power off I can still hear the whine sound. I can't hear/feel any noise at all from my old dc7800 CMT even if it's standing on the table next to me. I wonder if it is the combination of the sound from the fans. It's like the Pc is surrounded by "something" wich I can't locate. It is just like tinnitus (I think) and I fear for my health and I think I have to get rid of the Pc but HP wish to replace the CPU first. It's a lot of money to put in a closet.

The processor will be replaced monday and HP say that is a known issue. Maybe I should ask for new RAM, a new DVD drive and a new case. A kind of way to get a new Pc............

The HDD, PSU, MB, case FAN, and the CPU is changed by HP without success. The whine sound in my head appears 5 - 10 sec after the Pc is turned on. A secon person can't hear the whine and he thinks it is a relief when I turn the Pc off. Something is rotten but I don't know what to do.
