HP Elite 8200 CMT
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I am looking for an upgrade of my graphics card so that I can play the latest games. I own an HP 8200 Elite Convertible Minitower PC as the one here:

http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docLo...

It has the following specifications:
CPU: Intel Core i5 2400 3.1 Ghz
RAM: 8GB DDR3
HDD: 1TB 7200 RPM
Graphics: Intel Integrated HD Graphics 2000

The power supply unit is 320W and is displayed here:

The GPU I am looking for is found below:

http://www.evga.com/products/Specs/GPU.aspx?pn=70b14ba6...

The GPU specification states that a PSU of at least 300W is needed but I have heard rumors that a PSU of greater capacity might be needed.

So I am kindly asking if this GPU should fit my PC taking into account all the above factors. In addition should you need the PC BIOS features, they are found here:

In case you evaluate that this GPU is incompatible with my setup could you please recommend another GPU which might be compatible.

Many thanks in advance

Hi,

Let's know if you should decide to try the ZOTAC 750.

Hi,

The PSU in your PC is sufficient for most NVIDIA GTX 750 graphics cards however some GTX 750 models do require an auxiliary 6 pin power connector. The Elite 8200 is an older PC so you should consider a NVIDIA GTX 750 model that is advertised to be compatible backwards to PCI-E version 1.1.  I don't believe that the EVGA model has been advertised as being compatible backwards to PCI-E version 1.1.   ZOTAC advertises several models of the NVIDIA GTX 750 and 750 TI as being compatible backwards to PCI-E version 1.  Best Buy sells the ZOTAC 750 TI and generally the return policy is quite good.  Know what the return policy is before you buy.

Hi,

Thank you for your reply. The GPU I had selected does not require the auxiliary power connector. However I will check the other models you are suggesting. My concern is a bit related to the BIOS version. I have seen several posts claiming that the BIOS version might be locked down and might create problems with the new GPU. That's why I had included the BIOS features in my post. Do you think that the BIOS version will not create any issue with these new GPUs?

Hi,

Most of the NVIDIA 7xx and 9xx models are UEFI enabled.  Does your PC boot up UEFI with secure boot? If no, then look at the ZOTAC models.

My PC boots at legacy mode and secured boot is unsupported. Will check for those ZOTAC models most probably. Thanks.

Hello,

Just received a ZOTAC ZT-70601-10M NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB and installed it on my HP 8200 Elite CMT. Have been playing some latest games at very high graphics settings for a couple of hours now without any issues.

Thank you

I did manage to install a GTX 750 Ti card in a HP Z420 PC after the first trail with beeping sounds and power button leds.

After an upgrade/flash of the BIOS of the workstation the installation just went fine.

It is of course no Elite 8200 CMT, but the errors were quite the same and perhaps the solution is also useful for more people. Success!!
