Enable Wake on Lan (HPE h8-1220ez)

Hello,

On my HPE h8-1220ez WOL (Wake on Lan) is greyed out in BIOS (v7.13).

Can anybody tell me how to enable it?

Many thanks in advance,

Patrick

Hi Patrick,

Did you make any hardware modifications to your PC?

Try clearing the CMOS. Then go back into the bios and see if you can go from disabled to enabled.  don't change any other settings in the bios but do a save when you exit.

BTW, bios level 7.12 is the level posted on the support site and you have 7.13.  I have seen this before where the PC has a later bios level compare to the bios level posted on the support server.

If you can't get the WOL enabled, then contact HP support.

HP's support number is 800-474-6836 or 800-HPINVENT or online here.

Re: Enable Wake on Lan (HPE h8-1220ez)

Hi BigDave,

Yes, I did some hardware modifications.

Added a SSD and RAM.

Thanks for your hint with CMOS clearing. Eventough it didn't help, I learned at least more about the PC's internal. :smileyhappy:

I know it's odd but I'm almost sure BIOS 7.13 is installed. See picture.

Re: Enable Wake on Lan (HPE h8-1220ez)

Hi,

WOL may in fact stay dimm since you have the wireless lan mini card.  You might go into Device Manager and check the settings that are available for the wireless LAN mini card.  Look under Network Adapters and open open the wireless LAN mini card.  Look under the differnet tabs.  I don't have same card as you but the Power Management tab might be the place to start if its shown.  The wireless LAN mini card might not support WOL.

Re: Enable Wake on Lan (HPE h8-1220ez)

Hi,

As I’m not using the WLAN Adapter I already disabled it through the Device Manager, but it looks like this doesn’t seem to solve the issue.

Could it be that disabling causes the issue with WOL?

As another approach: Is there a possibility to switch the whole WLAN Adapter off trough a jumper setting on the mainboard or would it might help to uninstall the driver?

Thanks for your answer and regards

Re: Enable Wake on Lan (HPE h8-1220ez)

Hi,

If WOL stays dimm then it might mean two things; always enabled or always disabled (not available).  Go to the Network Adapters and open up the ethernet adapter and look under the Power Management tab for WOL and Magic packet check boxes.

Re: Enable Wake on Lan (HPE h8-1220ez)

I finally found it out!

In Bios 'S5 Maximum Power Savings' was enabled by default, after disabling that, WOL menupoint is accessable.

Thanks for your support while solving my problem.
