I have an HP Elite, model e9270t desktop running 64 bit Windows.
Reading mail, nothing new installed, computer stops responding.
Can not get Windows to start in any mode (std or repair).
Did Diag Tools from start-up, all tests OK except drive.
Error code BIOHD-8.
I read some posts that say the drive is bad, some say a mother board, some say update driver.
Any help appreciated to get this unit up and running to save my files on the desktop!
Thanks, Marty

Marty, welcome to the forum.
The error code that you are receiving is for a failed hard drive. I hope that you had your personal data backed up.

Thank you for the quick reply and info.
I have a Seagate Extreme attached (that auto back-ups), that I never used prior to this event.
Since I have never experienced this problem, I am unclear as to the solution.
Logically it would appear that I need to replace the drive, use the restore disc, access
the back-up and restore from there as well.
Am I on the right path here?
Thanks, Marty

Marty, it is my pleasure.
You have described the path to success perfectly. Here is a guide to help you do a Recovery once the new drive is installed:
It should help you eliminate possible problems. If you have further questions, let us know.

FYI, and this may help others as well; I went to tech support at Staples to ask about options.
They checked the unit for possibility of recovery of user files at no charge.
The Tech pulled the side cover, plugged something in and all my files re-appeared on his monitor.
The charge to make a full copy of all files is $69.99 (on their discs or to your external drive, takes a few days).
I opted for the copy of all files and they will check the disc drive in the process.
In the interim, I will check out your video instructions you so graciously supplied.
Thanks & many kudos!, Marty

Its not good that a hard drive goes down. It is a very good thing to see that a remedy has been provided. This link to my similar issue was very helpful.
BIOHD-8 occured this morning. Was wondering why my system was running so slow. This answers it. Already ordered recovery disc's since I can't access my secondary drive.
I have considered the previous posters suggestion to have my back up copied from a retailer but decided against it. Want to go with a fresh install after my HD has been replaced. In the process I will have to replace my CD/DVD drive as well since that went kaput the other day.
Wow... so much to do. Kudos the the posters!!!
