Like I said earlier, it would be more helpful for us to see a print screen of how the external HDD is showing up under Disk Management.

It is showing up normally in disk management.  As Disk 1.

 

When I right-click on it, the only options I can click on are : "delete volume" and "help".

The other options are a light grey and cannot be clicked on.  They are not available for that disk.

Have you tried what the other poster suggested - i.e. place this old HDD internally?

 

I suppose we are trying to determine if the external enclosure is causing an issue.
