Firewire Card 5187-1554

I extracted this HP 5187-1554 Fireward card from an old Pavilion 753c and would like to re-purpose it into my much-newer Pavilion 6537 desktop.  I've learned that my new one has a PCI slot, but is there a Windows 7 (64 bit) driver for this card?

Re: Firewire Card 5187-1554

Hi:

My advice is to just install it and see if Windows 7 automatically installs a driver for it.

If Windows 7 doesn't install a driver then more than likely the card is too old to be supported.

You will be able to purchase W7 capabable firewire cards today with faster transfer speeds than the one you currently have.

I do not believe there are W7 or Vista drivers available for it. At least I couldn't find any.

Thanks, Paul,

That's what I was thinking...I'll give it a shot and see.

Re: Firewire Card 5187-1554

You're very welcome.

Here is a link to a website that has plenty of firewire card choices just in case...

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&N=100006519&isNodeI...

Looks like the motherboard on your model also has 2 available PCIe x1 slots, so you can get a PCIe X1 firewire card, as well as a PCI one.

The PCIe x1 card will have a faster interface than a PCI one.
