For Full performance You need a Higher voltage AC Adapter Message

Hello,

I have a HP G70-460US Laptop since October 10,2009. About three days ago, the laptop started showing me a system message about the AC Adapter. The message says: For Full performance you need a higher voltage AC adapter. I verified the AC Adapter and the temperature was normal. The battery was charging OK. I had the laptop connected to a power strip, so I connect the laptop directly to the wall outlet. The next day, my wife was trying to use the laptop, and the battery had no charge. I unplugged and plugged again the AC Adpter and started charging again, but, the system keeps posting the same error message as before. My laptop is usually connected to a electrical outlet.

What can be the problem?

Re: For Full performance You need a Higher voltage AC Adapter Message

I have the exact same computer.  I am running Windows Vista which came on the laptop.  Last week I updated my bios to f.52 and since then I have been getting this error message.  Prior to the bios update I was not getting it. My wife has the EXACT same laptop and she has the older f.38 bios and does NOT get the error message.  What bios version are you running?

I opened a case with HP support tonight.  Hope to hear back form them soon.  I don't have a problem charging, but jsut the annoying pop up in the bottom right corner.

I am convinced this is a bios issue.

If you're convinced it's the BIOS update try reinstalling an older version and see if that's it.

Re: For Full performance You need a Higher voltage AC Adapter Message

My first guess would be you have low line voltage or your AC adapter is faulty or you have a bad battery. How did you verify that the AC adapter was working correctly?

You may want to post this in the Laptop forum where someone may be familiar with the issue and have an answer.

Re: For Full performance You need a Higher voltage AC Adapter Message

Hello,

Thanks for all your responses. Regarding the issue of the BIOS version. As a matter of fact, the problem started after I installed the upgrade to Windows 7 that HP sent me. One of the steps of the installation was a BIOS upgrade. The current version in my laptop is HP F52. So makes some sense the statement about the BIOS version. I didn't verify the voltage of the AC Adapter, but verified the battery status with the Battery Diagnostics software that comes with the Laptop and all seems OK.  Regarding the Voltage, I verified the voltage of the wall outlet, and all was OK. I contacted the HP Support people and they decided to send me a new AC Adapter.

Let's hope is only a faulty AC adapter, but keep posting your answers and suggestion. Maybe there's another person with the same problem outhere that need some information. Thanks for your help...

Re: For Full performance You need a Higher voltage AC Adapter Message

I would LOVE to revert to an older bios. If I HAD one.  I can't find other versions of the bios for this laptop.  I verified the AC Adapter by swapping the AC adapter with my wife's identical laptop.  Well identical accept for the bios version.  The problem stayed with my laptop, and never occured on hers.  In fact her AC Adapter caused the same warning on my laptop.

Re: For Full performance You need a Higher voltage AC Adapter Message

I also have the same problem as of last night with the HP update. In the lower right hand corner there is a  little annoying message saying " For full performance connect a higher capacity AC adapter".  I am going to contact HP support about it and see what they say. I will report what I find out if anything.

Re: For Full performance You need a Higher voltage AC Adapter Message

Hi everyone,

I received a new AC Adapter from HP Support, but the problem continues. So, is not a AC Adapter problem. I will contact HP Support again to check if they have new information about this issue. Also I noticed yesterday that if I grab the laptop and start moving it forward and backwards I can hear a piece of something moving around inside the laptop. I don't want to think that the electrical problem is a manufacturing error with a loose part inside the machine....

Re: For Full performance You need a Higher voltage AC Adapter Message

We are also getting this same message with a new G60-506US laptop just placed in service with the factory HP A/C adapter.

Looks like someone from HP needs to get into this!
