For Full performance connect to a higher capacity AC adapter Message

I have a Presario CQ60 214TX and the battery was not charging properly.  After many hours on the phone to the HP support number and lots of reinstallations and restarts the battery was charging but the above message started.  The HP operator said to just ignore it but it keeps popping up all over the screen and inteferes with scrolling etc.  Does anyone have a solution?

I am running Windows XP on a Compaq8510W.  I lost my power cord and bought a new one.  I get the annoying message, simply because I changed power cords.  The company I bought the cord from suggested that there are higher capacity power cords that I could buy.  Seems like I have the same problem as you folks, but I'm having trouble correlating the root cause with everyone else.

Getting the same message after updating something on my HP G 70 213 EM, I use a different power cord as the original broke after about a month, the message not only hinds scrolling but also typing.....very annoying HP.....have sent them a tech help question lets see how long it takes for a response!

Hi,

The error message is actually referring to the full performance (optimal) of the battery. Many people see that when they use a non standard ac adapter with their laptop that delivers less power to the battery (i.e 65 watts vs. 90 watts).

If you are seeing the message and are using the original ac adapter then it is possible that the adapter is failing.

I'm the customer that started this thread. I had the problems since a BIOS upgrade that came with the Windows 7 upgrade supplied free by HP when I purchased my new laptop. I called HP Customer Service and they supplied me with a new ORIGINAL AC Adapter and the problem continued. So, two adapters failing?... hmm. Based on other posts, the problem resides in the BIOS version. The Laptop is connected directly to a power receptacle in the house, not to a power strip or power supply. I have tested the voltage of the electrical connection, and all is OK. So, AC voltage error message, still a mystery....

I suggest that you downgrade the BIOS to the previous version. If the problem is in the BIOS update as you suggest then the error message should longer appear.

My story began a few months after I purchased my HP G70-460US and after I had upgraded from Vista to Windows 7.  After the upgrade, the battery would maintain its charge while plugged in but would not augment the charge.  If I turned of the laptop and unplugged it for several minutes and then plugged it back in again, when I turned it on several hours later, the charge would increase by a few percentages, but never fully charge.

I called HP support and was upgraded to BOIS F52 and also was sent a new battery.

After the upgrade to the new BIOS, I started seeing the "...higher capacity AC adapter" message.  It wasn't every few seconds as others have described, but appears from time to time and sometimes repeatedly in a short period of time.  It's not consistent.

The new battery didn't make any difference and would never charge completely.  I had to continue the charging games to bring the battery above 45%.  After another call to HP support, I mentioned the new "AC adapter" messages".  They ignored that information and decided to send me another new battery.  After the upgrade from Vista to Windows 7, to BIOS F52 and two (2) new batteries, the charging dilemma and "AC adapter" messages continue.

Between Microsoft, HP, Windows 7, batteries and adapters as researched in this and other posts on a variety of message boards, none of the vendors are stepping up to the plate to resolve these customer concerns.

Everytime I call HP Support, they inundate me with reminders and pitches that my warranty support will be ending in X number of days or that I should sign up for temporary software that was pre-installed on my laptop.  It appears that there's more concern to propogate HP's interests than to solve the problem.  I'm aware that the HP support techs are trained and coached to promote products and services along with the support, but that should come secondary to solving the problem.  Enough of the soapbox.

Hey everyone,

So I've been having this same problem for a few weeks. I didn't think much of it, until today when it was getting rather annoying. I called HP and after being put on hold for a minute, the guy told me that it was a virus and that I needed to restore to factory defaults and erase my hard drive. I was rather surprised and needed to back up one or two things, so I told them I would call back to be taken through it. I then searched for this problem and came upon this page. So are we thinking that this is just an issue with a BIOS update and that there isn't any real harm (other than annoyance) to my computer, or is this claim by HP that it's a virus true?

Would appreciate any input before I call back and wipe my computer.

Hey everyone,

So I just wanted to follow up: I checked with geek squad and they did find a virus on my computer. They removed it, and the hp adapter pop up has stopped.
