Re: Graphics Card For HP Slimline s3220n 160w

You may have to reset the cmos.If you want you can buy a new pc case and just migrate everything into it so you can fit any video card in it which is what i did. Here's a quick pic of my compaq cq5320 parts in my cooler master elite 310 case.

I a;lso upgraded the gfx to an zotac eco geforce 9800gt from using the integrated 6150se.

Re: Graphics Card For HP Slimline s3220n 160w

I have the s3505f with dual core 2.6ghz and I'm considering a video card upgrade.

My only objective is to run Starcraft 2 on it, this is the only PC game I will be playing. I'vre tried it tonight with my original slimline hardware, and I got a wonderful 7 fps. The video card is not enough performing I guess ( Geforce7100 with 128 mb of memory) . I still have plenty of virtual memory when the game is running ( about 1 gig left) The Radeon 5450 seems the best bet for my slimline, so I'm wondering if it will be sufficient to run Starcraft 2 with low quality settings. I'm also wondering if the card is compatible with the s3505f power supply. I could determine if it has the same power supply than the s3220n

For the ATI Radeon, Would the 1Gb  version make a big difference over the 512mb?

Starcraft 2 minimum requirements :

Thanks!

Re: Graphics Card For HP Slimline s3220n 160w

This slimline does have a 220 watt power supply and some decent video cards.  A word of caution on this slimline.  I don't know if a bigger PSU is installed with the bigger video cards listed. HP has been known to "detune" video cards using different specifications that will cause the video card to consume less power.

[ Edited ]

ati 5450 uses 10-15 watts so I think the stock psu will be enough. coz there are people who installed 4550 on 160w stock and there is no problem. 5450 consumes lesser power than 4550.

2.6ghz dual core 2 and 5450 will be more than enough to play starcraft 2 in low setting.

my pc is 2.0ghz and 7300LE, I can play sc2 well. Just a little lag when moving the screen. I think my processor is the problem. 7300LE on low setting is good already.

if you want to buy ati product line 5xxx. like 5450, you have to make sure your motherboard is pci 2.0 or 2.1  or else it will not be compatible.

Carlsonbl:  Strange, the HD 5450 should work fine in place of that other video card.  Was the Windows driver updated to reflect that you had a different video card in there?

Re: Graphics Card For HP Slimline s3220n 160w

No, I couldn't get it to work.  The machine never posted so it was hard to troubleshoot.  I tried all the relevant settings in the BIOS (PCI-E settings), and even tried different types of 5450 cards, but nothing worked.  I ended up buying an identical stock card (Geforce 8500GT) on eBay and the machine has been working great ever since.

Re: Graphics Card For HP Slimline s3220n 160w

One second.

On the gigabyte website (which I reached by pasting 'GIGABYTE GV-R545OC-512I Radeon HD 5450' into Google), I found the miniumum power supple requirement to be 400w.

So how can that work with only 160w? Does it just cope well with being severely under-powered/under-clocked, whatever the phrase is?
