Hi Hartley56,

The Corsair CX600 has sufficient power for the AMD R9 270x.

hey big dave. just heard news about nvidia's new 980 and 970 cards. I asked you about the 780ti and putting it into my system that i described in previous post. Now i can get the 980 without worrying about having a 600 watt power supply.  check out the info about them here:  http://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/embargo-nvidia-launches-geforce-gtx-980-970-graphics-cards-54...

do you think the 980 will do the trick and not upgrade my power supply.

Thks Dave

My son would like to upgrade his computer with a new graphics card. Where do we start with this?

He has an HP Pavilion p6716f-b with 6GB RAM, 1TB hard drive, AMD Athlon II 640 Processor, and ATI Radeon HD 4200 Integrated Graphics card. Thanks in advance.

Hi Tonyrl55,

Yes the NVIDIA 980 looks to be a great power saver. Early specifications indicate two PCI-E 6 pin power connectors are required as the card is rated for 165 watts.  A 500 watt power supply should work.  Basically this card replaces the NVIDIA GTX 770 but not the  GTX 780 or the Titan.

Hi Vickijd22,

We need additional about which applications need video performance improvements and how much you wish to spend.

However, in absence of the above information I'll make some suggestions. You will need to also replace the power supply.  This Corsair CX500 power supply is a great buy for $30 after rebate. As for a gaming video card, I would suggest the NVIDIA GTX 660 at $179.

Hey and thanks for your time. I have the hp 500-336 and was looking at getting a new video card and wanted to know if this one would work with my system it will be my first upgrade so everything is stock.

Zotac NVIDIA GeForce GT 730 2GB DDR5 DVI VGA HDMI PCI-Express 2.0 (x8 lanes) Graphics Card ZT-71101-10L or Zotac NVIDIA GeForce GT 730 1GB DDR5 DVI VGA HDMI PCI-Express 2.0 (x8 lanes) Graphics Card ZT-71102-10L. If not would you have any suggestions on one I could get for basic gaming (IE: world of warcraft does not have to be any setting better then fair to good) and streaming videos. Not too tech savy so i would like to keep as much stock as I can for now, minus the new video card and ram. Thanks again

Hi JTrumba,

What BIOS level is your PC running?  Open up the RUN window and enter the following: MSINFO32.

If you are running version 8 BIOS then you should be good to go.  If not, then perhaps one on the below cards would be a better choice as they offer improved compatibility.

MSI NVIDIA GTX N750 TI and the MSI GTX N750 TF  If Newegg is out of stock then try Tiger Direct or Google the exact card model.
