HP 500-037cb Wi-Fi Adapter problem (Ralink RT5390R)

Hello,

I recently purchased my HP computer, and it's absolutely great. My computer is up to date. I have noticed my Wi-Fi to suddenly drop and lose connection, as I hover over the Wi-Fi bars, it tells me I have limited connection. I right click to troubleshoot right away, and it tells me "The default gateway is not available" and sometimes that the connection between my modem and internet is broken.

I've searched the forums a bit and saw that the Ralink RT5390R 802.11bgn Wi-Fi Adapter is pretty weak and overheats qucikly thus disconnecting and restarting, is there any way HP can replace this Wi-Fi adapter. Which Wi-Fi adapter can give me excellent results?

I know it's not my internet connection nor modem because on my Mac and other computers, the internet never drops and isn't interrupted.

When I click 'View Detailed Information' this is what I get:

Re: HP 500-037cb Wi-Fi Adapter problem (Ralink RT5390R)

Hi,

Try a Ralink driver from this site or from the HP site under Windows 8.1 You might get lucky.

Your PC is under warranty so give HP Support a call. HP's support number is 800-474-6836 or 800-HPINVENT or online here.

Re: HP 500-037cb Wi-Fi Adapter problem (Ralink RT5390R)

quite right stating that he might "get lucky"

Ralink network devices have been giving me trouble for years! i avoid them at all costs.

this rosewill USB2.0 wireless interface is pretty solid, i personally own 2 of these. they have a realtek base which i'm also not overly fond of but they seem to get the job done.

[ Edited ]

I have downloaded and installed successfully, but now I have to wait and see if it has fixed it, (my internet/phone/tv cables were cut down due to the fire department) so I'll get back to you ASAP about this update.

Also, thank you for the recommendation of the Wi-Fi adapter! If nothing fixes this problem, I'll definitely replace it, thank you once again.

Re: HP 500-037cb Wi-Fi Adapter problem (Ralink RT5390R)

So, the update "kinda" worked, instead of my internet crapping out 4 to 5 times a day, now it's only once a day.

I still believe the Wi-Fi adapter card is complete crap, so I'll defininitely be changing it!
