HP DC5800 SFF PC (NV321UA#ABA) 32-Bit

I wanted to know if I could put in the following CPU to move up to 64-Bit:

Intel Core 2 Duo E8600

Also, do I need to change the motherboard too? If yes, any suggestions?

Re: HP DC5800 SFF PC (NV321UA#ABA) 32-Bit

Hi:

All of the processors in a dc5800 are 64 bit capable.

According to the product number for your PC it comes with the E8400.

Here are the specs on that processor from Intel.

I would not see much benefit in upgrading from the E8400 to the E8600 but if you want to, go for it.

If you live in the USA/Canada, all you have to do is call HP at this number 1-800-334-5144, and tell the customer services rep that you need a set of Vista Business 64 bit recovery disks, and you can install Vista x64.

A set of these disks will cost you $10.00

Re: HP DC5800 SFF PC (NV321UA#ABA) 32-Bit

Hi,

I think there might be something wrong with my computer. The first time I tried the Vista 64-bit recovery disks from a friend, it didn't work. I got a message that said something like "This isn't a 64-bit CPU...". That's why I posted this message on HP Support Forum because I thought I had to upgrade my CPU (and maybe a motherboard).

I tried the recover disks again, and now I was able to install the 64-bit version. Is there something else that might be causing this?
