HP Envy 700-215 integrated graphics

[ Edited ]

Hello,

I have been trying to install a graphics card with no luck. I upgraded my power supply to 500w. When i install and start, the monitor goes to sleep and won't work. if i try to plug it back into the integrated vga slot same problem.

I am unable to install the driver for the new card without having it plugged in which i cannot do. (no visual)

This runs windows 7 so it is already in Legacy mode (support chat had me try the windows 8 solution even though i kept saying this was windows 7)

The latest try was with the PNY GeForce gtx 650

first try was GeForce gt 610 (was told it didn't work because it was pci-e 2.0)

PNY mentions changing the bios for the primary display adapter but i can't find that in bios and disabling the integrated adapter in device manager did not help.

Someone please tell me what i am doing wrong and what if anything i can add that will work.

Thank you,Christine

Hi,

Computer Does not Start After Installing a Video Card (Windows 8)

Be sure to connect up the auxillary PCI-E 6 pin power connector to the GTX 650.

Use a known good VGA cable without any adapters to connect up the VGA monitor.

Check and be sure that your monitor is using VGA as the video input source in the monitor's menu.

Now power on.  If there still is no video source on the monitor then either the card is bad or the PSU is faulty.

Re: HP Envy 700-215 integrated graphics

Thank you for the help. I tried another card and it worked. I switched to the 640, so i am not sure if it was a bad card or something else.
