HP Media Center M8000 multi-card reader does not read cards

This media reader never seemed to work, at first I thought it might be the cards, but they all read just fine through a usb reader. Any thoughts an what to try? The drive locations show up, but when trying to access, there is a long delay, then it says no media present, insert a card into the reader. Checked connection inside MOBO, and it's OK.
