HP Pavilion 061, XP, AMD Athlon XP 3000+, 2.1 GHz - Upgrade options?

Inherited this machine after buying a new one and was hoping to use it for gaming even tho it is quite old.  Need to upgrade video card and am looking for recommendations.  Current Video card: VIA/S3G UniChrome IGP.

Also, is this machine worth the investment?  It currently has 1 GB or RAM

Thanks.

@cuznleroy,

Cross posted to Hp pavilion 061 system model ABA-a307x? video card upgrade

The HP a307x desktop computer referenced in the other thread is not the same as your computer because the a307x uses an Intel CPU and you state that yours has an AMD CPU. It is unlikely that this machine can be upgraded to play modern games as the existing motherboard limits you to older/slower/smaller CPUs, memory, and video cards.

If you have any further questions, please post the complete HP model number and/or product number from one of the stickers on the side, back, or bottom of the computer, with the question.

Please post any comments and/or questions to this thread only.

Again, at 8 years of age, this system is incapable of playing all but the most simplistic of modern games. Here are the specs for your HP a610n desktop computer and its A7V8X-LA (Kelut) motherboard. According to the specs, your system supports a max of either 1GB (computer specs) or 2GB (motherboard specs) of unbuffered PC2700/2100 non-ECC DDR SDRAM memory. It only has an AGP 8x/4x 1.5v graphics card slot. And the max CPU supported is single core AMD Athlon XP 3200+ Barton Processor (2.20 GHz, 400MHz). This machine is not worth investing in as you get very minimal inprovement for large sums of cash.
