HP Pavilion 500-164 upgrade??

Hi,

i bought the HP Pavilion 500-164 recently mostly for gaming (i understand it's not a fully capable gaming computer)

But i was wondering if this computer could have the graphics card upgraded to the AMD Radeon  HD 7970 in order to make it a fully functional gaming rig.

what else would i need to upgrade? the Processer on this computer seems to be a very good one from my research..

it is the AMD Elite Quad-Core A8-650 w/ 8GB Ram....

please help! don't want to return and search for a new computer when i can just upgrade this one.

Here's your system. It has WIN8 with the UEFI BIOS. and a 300W PSU. Both are issues. This article on UEFI BIOS is important. Because you did not specify the exact GPU card, I will assume the basics.

Most 7970 are 10.8-11" long, and require a min of 500W. I would prefer 600-650W.  No one will likely recommend a PSU over 650W, as there can be problems. You might want to cut a cardboard template to check if the card can fit. See here for an excellent guideline for fitting a card by Big_Dave.

Do it in steps.  I would recommend you install the PSU first, and run your system. Once it's stable, deal with the BIOS and the card.
