HP Pavilion 6320y desktop wont boot up.

My brother bought a HP pavilion 6320y desktop a little over a year ago and says it won't boot up.  I took it home with me to troubleshoot it and can't get it to boot to bios.  It has an M2N7B-LA motherboard, an AMD phenom II X4 820 quad core processor, an Nvidia GeForce 9100 graphics card, an a windows 7 64 bit operating system.  I cleaned it out of all the dust, reseated the RAM, and disconnected the hard drive.  I finally got it to turn on and stay on, but the fans shut off shortly after.  I know the mother boards in these aren't the best, but could it be something else?

Re: HP Pavilion 6320y desktop wont boot up.

Hi,

Do you hear any beeps?  HP BIOS beep codes.

Try clearing the CMOS.  Generally the CMOS battery is good for 3-5 years but it's only a $4 item to try a new battery.

The motherboard in 6320y PC does have a bad history.

You might want to try another power supply or take the PC into a competent PC repair shop for advanced troubleshooting.

Re: HP Pavilion 6320y desktop wont boot up.

Hi,

First try the procedure to 'Clear the CMOS' shown towards the bootom of the page on the link below.

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01925562&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&cc=us&dlc=en...

If the above doesn't help and you have more than one Memory Module installed, try the following.

Remove all but 1 of your memory modules and then see if the PC will boot.  If it doesn't, try the same module in another slot.  Repeat this so you try the same module in all 4 slots  If is still doesn't boot, try this process with another memory module to see if any combination will allow the PC to start.

Regards,

DP-K

Re: HP Pavilion 6320y desktop wont boot up.

I don't hear any bios beeps on start up, i am quite familiar with them.  I reset the CMOS and tried each set up ram seperately. I have 4 (2GB) sticks. Any other ideas?
