HP Pavilion s5715: replacing internal hard drive and windows 7 & OEM

Hi everyone.

I'm using a desktop PC HP Pavilion s5715 with windows 7 home premium x64. The internal hard drive is a Seagate (ST1000528AS SATA/300 7200rpm). I have been recently getting messages when starting up windows saying that 'hard disk failure is imminent'. Checking the HDD with CrystalDiskInfo tells me that it's got a problem with reallocated sectors count & reallocation event count (with values 1, 1, 36).

So now I want to replace this internal drive with a Western Digital Black 1TB and I want to have Windows 7 on the new drive. I got 3 HP recovery disks (burnt on DVD discs). I also got a D drive which says 'HP_Recovery'.

1. Can I replace the SATA/300 Seagate with a WD SATA/600?

2. Does my HP s5715 Pavilion support the new internal hard drive?

3. How to install windows 7 on the new hard drive? Can I use the HP recovery discs? Some forum posts on the internet say something OEM Windows 7; I have no idea what that is and if I got it. Or should I use software like Acronis to clone my hard drive onto the new one? What to do? thanks

Re: HP Pavilion s5715: replacing internal hard drive and windows 7 & OEM

Thanks for the help. I do have one question though. My PC supports only one HDD at a time. Is there a specific order I should stick to when replacing the HDD and installing Windows?

Re: HP Pavilion s5715: replacing internal hard drive and windows 7 & OEM

YES...

1) Backup everything you wish to keep, that is on the current hard drivr.

2) Remove the old drive and install the new drive.

3) Insert HP Recovery Disc #1 into the CD/DVD drive and boot the computer.

4) Select the "System Recovery" option or the like and follow the prompts.

5 ) When the process is complete, your computer will be just llike a factory state.

Re: HP Pavilion s5715: replacing internal hard drive and windows 7 & OEM

Hi,

Tell me please, if I could not make HP Recovery Disc, my HDD died earlier than I thought, where can I download the disc for my model?
And another question - your HDD has firmware HP and the new drive just Seagate firmware? Firmware version if something affects not?
Probably not just so you do firmware HP instead of the usual standard Seagate firmware?

Re: HP Pavilion s5715: replacing internal hard drive and windows 7 & OEM

AvorHarp,

If you didn't create your HP Recovery Discs before the hard drive died, you will not be able to do so at this time. HP Recovery Discs and/or the HP Recovery image for your computer isn't available for download. Please contact HP, in your region / country, via the HP Worldwide Support Portal to check on the availability of HP Recovery Discs for your computer.

The original drive was made for HP and contained an HP specific firmware. Any retail hard drive you purchase to replace the factory installed drive, will not and does not need to have an HP firmware.

If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Re: HP Pavilion s5715: replacing internal hard drive and windows 7 & OEM

Thanks for the quick reply.
Well, yes, HP may send a recovery disk for the price comparable to the price for which I bought this computer, so I guess there is no reason. ))
Why I did not make disc recovery? answer - I tried to make a recovery disk when I bought the computer, but HP program refused to do to create a disc RW and and requested the disk only R tupe - it is discrimination, especially as R Verbatim discs sold in our region do not store information for more than 1 year .. I have not use R discs only use RW, they are more reliable for data recovery. But HP program create RW rejected. That's why I did not do anything.
Thanks again for the quick response.

And please tell me if I replace the APU E2-3200 -> APU A6 X4 3650 it will give a tangible increase in power? (In our region they are sold cheap 20 $ / BOX version)

Re: HP Pavilion s5715: replacing internal hard drive and windows 7 & OEM

Please see CPU World - AMD A6-3650 vs E2-3200 for a side-by-side performance comparsion. The A6-3650 is much faster/better.
