HP Slimline s7620n PC RAM

Hi all,

i recently aquired a slimline from a friend and it works fine ive played around plenty with it. It currently has 1GB DDR 5200 installed. I ran a scan on itr to see if it could hold more and itsaid it can handle 2GB an it suggested DDR2 5300, when i put the stick in it wouldnt run so i looked an it only recognized 512mb. is the difference in sticks the problem or could it be the stick i tried to put in.

Thx.

Re: HP Slimline s7620n PC RAM

You have to use matched memory. 2 x PC-4200 ,2 x PC-5200 or 2 x PC-5300. It will not let you install PC-4200 and PC-5300

HP Slimline s7620n PC RAM: can I use 2x1GB PC6400 800MHZ

1. have anyone ever tried 2 x 1GB of either PC-4200 , PC-5200 or PC-5300?

2. I bought 2x1GB PC6400 800MHZ (compatible to PC-4200 , PC-5200 and PC-5300 as the label says). But it doesn't work.

The problem you are facing is that you probably didn't buy guaranteed compatible RAM from a major manufacturer. Not all memory modules will work in HP pcs. The HP custom BIOS is very specific in what it will accept. The problem could be easily something so straightforward as the voltage requirement that your new memory modules have. Sadly you cannot modify the memory module requirements in the very limited BIOS.

Re: HP Slimline s7620n PC RAM: can I use 2x1GB PC6400 800MHZ

Just completed this RAM "upgrade" to 2x1GB chips purchased from Crucial.com (Micron).  The chips were selected following an analysis of the system by Crucial - the chips are identical pairs as required.  Result: the computer starts up, runs fine, but does not recognize the additional RAM.  Instead, it only recognizes 2x512MB.  Crucial tech assistance had me pull the internal battery to reset CMOS, then check for any BIOS updates - didn't work.  Any thoughts would be helpful.  Thanks!
