HP dc7700p Convertable Microtower - Upgrade CPU to Core 2 Quad Q9300

I have a spare Q9300 kicking around that i want to put into my dc7700p machine.

However when i put it in it powers up for 1 second then shuts down.

Does this machine not support this cpu? They are both socket 775??

Board part number is 404673-001

Thanks

Hi,

The dc7700 will not run any quad core processor.

The standard maximum upgrade is the Pentium Core 2 Duo E6700 2.66 GHz (Conroe).

With the latest BIOS and microcode update, you can install up to a Core 2 Duo E7600 but I have read there are multiplier issues that HP was rumored to be working on releasing a BIOS update for. Whether they actually release one or not remains to be seen.

However, a quad core processor is out of the question.

Just because it has the same socket, other than it physically fitting of course, that is the least important aspect of knowing what processor will work in a particular PC
