HP diagnostic tool errorcode BIOHD-8 (Harddrive)

Received this error code and need to know if I can recover. Failed smart test .

Was this the boot drive?  What model HP PC are you using?

Did the error occur when you were running the diagnostic tool?

err1err3 came up when trying to startup

Ran diagnostic which gave me the smart test failure, model number of drive etc said backup all good data and call tech.

I have only one drive. All other drives on computer are empty.

Is the PC still under warranty?  If yes, then contact HP support.  It's probably not under warranty as it's nearly the same as one of my PCs( m9200t) unless you bought the extended warranty.

HP's support number is 800-474-6836 or 800-HPINVENT or online here.

Unplug the PC and open it up.  Remove and replace the data cable going to the hard drive and also at the motherboard sata port. Perhaps this reseating process will solve the problem. Be sure the power connector to the drive is on tight.

Get your data backed up.  If you haven't made a set of the HP recovery disks then do so ASAP. You'll need 3 DVD+Rs.

1. Open the RUN Window and enter the following command: chkdsk
2. Open my Computer and right mouse click on the hard drive --> properties --> Tools --> Check now

Dave I cannot get to any boot screen/dos  normal startup only gives me this

ERR1ERR3

Then black screen and repeat.

Out of warranty for sure.

Drive is kaput?

I do not have backup disks I will have to buy a new operation system and the drive I guess?

You can order recovery disks from HP. HP Recovery Disks.

You might consider taking the drive out and see if a local PC repair shop can extract the data and/or test it out before you buy a new hard drive.
