HP personal Media Drive

I got a PMD ,installed it in my Pavillion bay ,did a backup to the drive ,works great.However, each time I wake the computer from sleep the drive opens automatically on screen. I close it and carry on. I've tried to set Autoplay but the drive doesn't show in the list, or I don't know what I'm looking for.I can stop the drive from opening by disabling Autoplay for all, but of course then I need to start everything manually. Any suggestions?

Have you tried:

<start>

<run>

Type "msconfig" <enter> (no quotes)

click the "startup" tab.

find the program in the list and un-check the box in front of it.

click "apply" and "ok" and reboot.

Once rebooted, a window will open. Check the box and click "ok".

or

<start>

<All Programs>

<accessories>

<run>

Type "msconfig" <enter> (no quotes)

click the "startup" tab.

find the program in the list and un-check the box in front of it.

click "apply" and "ok" and reboot.

Once rebooted, a window will open. Check the box and click "ok".

yet?

-Cheers,

Steve

Re: HP personal Media Drive

Checked out msconfig but didn't see anything resembling PMD. As of my previous post I hadn't used the setup supplied with the drive, which creates some folders for picture, videos, etc. I've now done that to see if it made any difference. Doesn't. However previous to that, the folder wouldn't appear if I woke from the locked state. Now it does. So basically it made things worse. It's not really a big issue except that before I start anything ,I need to close the folder.

Re: HP personal Media Drive

I have exactly the same issue with my 750g PMD,  Autoplay is constantly finding it and have found nothing in my startup options in msconfig.  mainly annoying because it wakes my pc up and screen saver doesn't seem to want to kick in,  my fear of coarse is burn in.

Re: HP personal Media Drive

I haven't had any issues with it waking the PC.It just pops up after I wake the PC.Might be something in device manager to stop it from waking the PC?

Re: HP personal Media Drive

I found my pmd in the device manager but did not see any thing that would affect my problem.  In the autoplay options (blue link at bottom of window when it pops up)  ther is an area at the bottom of the window that says that Devices that are connected to my pc should be listed here but the PMD is not listed,  this is where I would expect to be able to tell Auto play what to do with it.

Re: HP personal Media Drive

In the auto play options [Start -> Control Panel -> AutoPlay],

I unchecked the 'Use AutoPlay for all media and devices', while changing all other options to 'Ask me every time'.

Then saved changes.

This seemed to work.

Note: you can change any of the auto play options, to whatever, the next time an 'Ask me every time' is triggered.

I just did this, but I think it's the way to go - anyone see any problems?

Re: HP personal Media Drive

HP, why not fix the problem. Stop treating the PMD as just another flash drive. Every time my computer wakes up, it AGAIN finds the NEWLY inserted drive which was never removed.

I escalate this problem to HP tech support and their solution was to disable autoplay. Took two days of buck passing to reach this brilliant conclusion. No attempt to actually fix the real problem which is to program a 'driver' for the PMD instead of relying on Micrsoft generic flash drive solution.

Re: HP personal Media Drive

What worked for me:

Go to the control panel auto play screen:

Start -> Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Auto Play

There is a box in the top left corner: Use Auto Play for all Media and Devices

Uncheck this box

The setting you currently have the other devices will remain as is.

You will no longer get the PMD wake up notification (note: there is no box specially for the PMD)

Using Win7 and OS thinks that drive is 'pictures' because I have backup pictures on there.  Options do not allow me to set 'do nothing' for that specific drive.

I don't want to turn off media autoplay. I use media cards, Compact Flash and SD,  to download photos.
