Hard drive is stopping recovery discs from loading ???

Hello, I just purchased recovery discs from HP for my HP m7160n, xp  media center edition. when I try to install them I get an error message that says ( theese recovery cd's are not compatible with this model pc ). I had the same problem with my a1630n and the same HD. The HD is a Seagate Barracuda, sata, 500gb, 32mb cache, 7200 rpm. PN: 9BD648-551. I tried using the supplied jumper to reduce the data rate from 3gb to 1.5gb, with no luck. When i tried an older western digital sata 80gb HD, the recovery cd's loaded on the first try. Is there anything I can do to make this HD work with the recovery cd's? I have been using this HD with xp pro for about 6 mos. with no problems.

Thank You in advance for any help...Rick..

CG, the SATA connectors are definitely for serial ATA-150.  Although, I believe that drive should be backwards compatible.  There is a BIOS update.  However, it does not mention that it fixes your problem.  Do you have the jumper set to "Cable Select"?  I don't know if this would make a difference, but if it is not set to CS, you may want to try it.

You may want to contact Seagate to see if they can help.  I always start with the manufacturer of the new component that I buy.  They will do whatever they can to get it running.  They don't want you to take it back.

A couple more questions,  The HD I have only has one row of pins on the extra plug, where my old HD has 2 sets of pins to connect the jumper? Is there any way to use a jumper on this for cable select?  What is the differance between the sata 1 and sata 2 HD's? and, Is there any way to make the HD with the single row of pins work with an ASUS P5LP-LE  Limestone mobo?  All help is appriciated..

                                                          Thanks, Rick..
