How can I upgrade my HP Pro 3010 to accept two 1 terabyte hard drives?

[ Edited ]

Hi.

Only after I had purchased a hp pro 3010 mt desktop unit did I settle down enough to discover that it is designed for internal hard drives between 160 g and 500 g.

I had purchased two 1 terabyte SATA internal hard drives containing training software and designed to be used together.

Is there anything I can do to be able to use my new drives on the 3010?

Please help!

Re: How can I upgrade my HP Pro 3010 to accept two 1 terabyte hard drives?

Early PCs had bios restrictions on hard drive sizes.

Many of the newer motherboards (bios levels) today are limited to 2 TB hard drives with the exception of some from MSI and Intel. Even then you need to be running a 64 bit operating system and have applications that will support large hard drives.

Does the bios recognize your new hard drive?  If you can boot up on the older hard drive with the newer hard drive installed then you might try to initialize the second new hard drive and then partition it into smaller partitions.

Re: How can I upgrade my HP Pro 3010 to accept two 1 terabyte hard drives?

Big_Dave,

I thank you for the reply.

Yes; the bios does recognise the new drives. Diagnostics show that everything id ok with the drives.

One of the drives contains a 64 bit os and I want to replace the drive that came with the pc with these new drives.

I am training to become a SAP consultant and these are the hard drives I got. Please see http://www.erpselftraining.com/product/Installed_SAP_ECC_60_SR311.html

Partitioning the drives is not an option; I will lose data.

Any ideas please?

You might try an external USB enclosure.  It's a long shot with your PC.
