I currently have HP p6277c-b desktop PC running Windows 7 home prmium 64-bit.
I had a failur in my motherboard video section, I first checked HP for the motherboard, but they do not sell anymore. I went online and found the same exact motherboard ( ipiel-la3-eureka-gl8 p/n 533234-002) .
I installed the motherboard which went perfect, booted up machine and it would not boot past the splash screen Ifigured somehow hard drive got corrupted, so I did a system recovery and all was good the splash screen came up booted thru that and went to setting up system, that is when I get an ERROR CODE PURPLE!.
Doing a little research online I found Error Code Purple is a boobie trap HP creates, there is a tattoo on the motherboard that the recovery is looking for. Thank you HP. So I am stuck since my HP is out of warranty they will not even remotely cosider talking to me.
How do I get the tattoo for the motherboard HP?
Sincerely,
A po'ed customer
John

I remember that and at one time I found that that could be edited out. As I remember it, during boot it simply calls a batch file that had to be modified. Do a little more research and see if you can find the documentation.

howver1,
Code Purple is not usually invoked if your running the stock configuration. It checks the motherboard, and graphics card. That said, HP would have assisted you, as it's the same motherboard.
Here is how to fix it.

Yes, thanks for finding that! It's Saturday here and I have been assigned work in the yard and was short on time.

I am not running HP stock configuration since old motherboard had a failure. I did replace motherboard with the same p/n but not from HP since they do not sell anymore, other than that all items swapped to new motherboard are stock oem components, my understanding is HP tattoo's the motherboard.
I will try your solution.
Thank you,
John

The source of the new motherboard does not matter.
HP has said they will assist with a "Code Purple". I offer the cure only if necessary.

WB2001's link shows you exactly how to fix the problem! It is a link to the procedure I had mentioned!
