For five months the fan never came on in my HP Pavilion h8 1127cb desktop computer, then suddenly it flipped on about an hour ago. It is loud and I want it to stop. My office temperature is cool, the computer itself is not hot, and I've changed nothing to prompt this. Why would this happen? How do I turn off the fan? Thanks.

Turn off the computer - take out the battery from the motherboard in 10 sec - and put it back in. It solved the problem solved.

I had the same problem and it was because some background apps were hogging my CPU.

1.  Try opening your task manager (ctrl+shift+esc)

2.  hit the button at the bottom that says, "more details"

3.  sort the apps by CPU % by clicking on the label of the collum titled CPU. (that box will probably have a percentage of something ridiculous for just basic browsing like 90%.)

4. find the app that is taking up the most CPU % and right click it and hit "end task"(for me it was something like "windows support")

good luck
